When it comes to home improvements, there are many things that you can do, but installing new tiles is just the thing that you need if you are looking for a breath of fresh air. Placing new tiles on the floor will totally transform the way in which a room looks and feels. The great thing is that tiles are not that difficult to install. All that you just need is a bit of patience and precision. Remember that maintaining your tiles is even easier if you have installed them properly from the start!

The best way in which to install your tiles is to make sure that the old ones have been properly lifted from the floor, leaving you with a plain concrete surface to work on. Once this has been done, you need to measure the inside of the floor. Mark out a square that is in the centre of the room and make sure that you have got the exact measurement between the centre and the sides of the room. Then make sure that you measure out and cut your tile sheets to the exact dimensions. The reason that you need to do this is because you cannot always use filler tiles to make up for the lost space. After this has been done, you need to lay down the backing board. This is a board that is made up of cement and that will make it easy for you to put the tiles and the tile adhesive down as well. Mark out the spaces for your tiles and then put down your adhesive. Put down the tile sheets and leave them to dry. Put grout over the tiles and leave to dry for about twenty four hours. Tidy them up and make sure that you apply a tile sealant. This is the first step to properly installing and maintaining your tiles.

Keeping your tiles at their best

Once you have installed your tiles, maintaining them is relatively simple. All that you have to do is to make sure that you seal them regularly so that damp and mould do not set in. If they start setting in, you will have to redo the tile job. You should also make sure that you clean the tiles regularly. This is due to the fact that the grout can take on stains if exposed to spills on a regular basis. This is especially true of kitchen tiles. If you have bathroom tiles, try and make sure that the bathroom doesn’t get too damp or wet. Air it out on a regular basis so as ensure that the tiles do not incur more wear and tear than they should.
